Amazon rainforest wildfires
Smoke arises from a burnt log in an area of the Amazon jungle hit by fire, in the municipality of Novo Progresso, in the state of Pará, on Saturday, August 15. In July, the federal government issued a decree banning burning throughout Brazil for 120 days. The veto comes amid pressure from national and international investors due to the country’s negative image abroad caused by environmental management and increased deforestation.
