Quilombo São José
In 2006, in my last semester of my graduation in Journalism, i choosed as my final work, talk about photo documentary and i decided to do my first photography essay about the subject. So i went to São José do Rio Preto, a small district in the Valença City, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state. There lives a remanescent community descendent of slaves, called Quilombo São José. There they still lives in the old houses from your past relatives and they live from your own agriculture and handicraft. The religion and the dance “Jongo” are still really alive in the between them.
Valença, Rio de Janeiro, 2006.
